PLE6_GOOGLE DOCS PRESENTATION

PRESENTATION
This is the Google Docs Presentation that I put together from my movie slides to demonstrate the sharing of a presentation. You can share your presentation with audience via invites online. The presentation can also be embed to a blog or downloaded. Overall, I enjoyed my experience with this part of Google Docs Suite.

SHARING AND RETRIEVING INFORMATION
My next task is trying to use the Google Docs Spreadsheet which is going to be the source of sharing student daily attendance reports after verification which requires real-time updating and access to teachers and administrators daily. This report is used for several reasons, to catch cutters, and mainly to verify attendance. We switched platforms this year and it's been very interesting for me so far this year. I was currently sending out a cumulative Excel Spreadsheet daily via email which takes up a large quantity of space per email recipient plus daily and assume the storage of all the emails for those that don't clear them. I knew the storage issue was coming and it did! I got this email from the District Office Security asking what was the report etc.. I explained and cc my AP. I knew this was coming because of the files being so large they would start to slow down the email system and use the space up with the cumulative spreadsheets. This is why I'm working on using the Google Docs Spreadsheet which can be uploaded to my folder on the School's share drive with a link which will be given to all teachers and administrators for them to go to for retrieval of students attendance. The data will show the time stamped for the last update so that the teachers know that the information is current that they've retrieved.

I've been working on using the Google Doc Suite which is the Web 2.0 tool that I will be in my Action Research Project. My research is focused on finding a means of communication/ collaboration, sharing, and retrieval of student data among teachers and administration. Google Docs Suite provides the Web tool for a culture of ongoing , real-time communication throughout the school community, and information sharing has become natural.  I've shared my Literature Resources for my Action Resource Project using Google Docs with my Technogals team members. Google Docs allows them to review make comments on the document. I can also set the document as a read only as well. Read only will prevent changes from being made to the document. The link is below. Take a look!

PLE2_Google Docs Movie

This is my PLE 2 for this week. I had a great time this weekend going through putting my music to my movie and trimming the clips as needed without having to call FSO or call one of my Technogals for guidance or screen share directions. I really had fun putting everything together!

PLE1_VIMEO

I chose Vimeo as PLE 1. This is a web tool that is similar to Viddler.com which allows you to upload videos that you've created to share and collaborate with. It is a free service. Click the link above to try.

BP9_Google Docs

I decided to share Google Docs as my PE for this week. Google Docs is related to my Action Research Project and I thought it would be a great idea to share my findings with you.Google Docs is a free, Web-based word processor, spreadsheet, presentation, form, and data storage service offered by Google. It allows users to create and edit documents online while collaborating in real-time with other users. Google Docs combines the features of Writely and Spreadsheets with a presentation program incorporating technology designed by Tonic Systems. Google Docs is Google's "software as a service" version of an office suite. Opened documents are automatically saved to prevent data loss, and a revision history is automatically kept. Individual documents may not exceed 1GB as of 13 January 2010, embedded images must not exceed 2MB each, and spreadsheets are limited to 256 columns, 200,000 cells, and 99 sheets. Google Docs serves as a collaborative tool for editing amongst users and non-users in real time. Documents can be shared, opened, and edited by multiple users at the same time. The application supports the ISO standard Open Document format. It also includes support for proprietary formats such as .doc and .xls as well as support for .docx and .xlsx.
Google Docs is one of many cloud computing document-sharing services. The majority of document-sharing services require user fees, whereas Google Docs is free. Google Docs also incorporates the ability to write code within documents in a similar way to VBA in Microsoft Office.

BP_4 Web 2.0 Tool

http://www.getdropbox.com
I've chosen Dropbox as my Web 2.0 tool for this week. I always find myself looking for my thumb drive when it's time for me to download my papers or some document that I 've created at home for school and can't remember whether or not I saved it on the share drive at school or where. So I subscribed to Dropbox and now I have access everywhere I go and it doesn't require me to keep up with a thumb drive .I just log into Dropbox at my PC or Mac even via iPhone and my documents are right there. It is free and simple to download. I've included snapshots of my page with folders that I have set up within my account. Try it!

BP_1 Google Reader

Welcome to my ETC blog page which will document my journey in my ETC graduate course at Full Sail University. I'm excited about this month's journey and perhaps feeling a little over-whelmed at the same time. I know that as always I'll be exposed to a wealth of knowledge and increase my collaborative skills as well.
